"Ethereal Roots of Comporta...Raízes Etéreas Da Comporta..."
The artist returns to the magical lands of Comporta again and again and is inspired to capture its ethereal natural beauty with her dedicated daylight infrared camera.
While her motto is “Always Look Up” and her search for “Reflections” is, at first, meant figuratively, they are also meant to suggest spiritual reflection. Her work is divided into her own “yin & yang”- ”order and emotion”, expressed in two very different types of photography, one urban and one in nature.
In the “ETHEREAL ROOTS OF COMPORTA” she ventures into nature for, her yang, this her “emotionally reflective” work. WIth this method, it is the sunlight itself that is reflected and absorbed on a frequency which lies just outside our human visual spectrum. Common sights are filtered through the transformative power of light into a dreamlike landscape. Discovering the emotional in the unemotional, her vistas are elevated to a higher spiritual beauty.
Landscape and life of Comporta is situated on the diametrical opposite of the Atlantic Divide to New York City where the artist currently resides. This juxtaposition of the Old World and New World also signifies deep conflict within the artist herself; with her European roots vis-à-vis the decades she has made a home of America.
Here in Comporta she feels she has found a way back to her roots, which is embodied in these strong and powerful, yet somehow light and magical images of the awe-inspiring vast rice fields, majestic parasol pine trees and magnificent cork trees. Rogge captures the natural terrain in its otherworldliness and heavenly aura, creating a new perception and adding a new perspective. It elevates the contours of nature to the divine.
