ETHEREAL ROOTS OF COMPORTA
The collection “Ethereal Roots of Comporta...Raízes Etéreas Da Comporta...” is conceived by Celia Rogge. The artist has visited the magical lands of Comporta over the past several years and was inspired to capture its ethereal
beauty with her dedicated daylight infrared camera.
The vast rice fields, parasol pine trees, and cork trees represent the essence of this magnificent landscape. With the use of this specific camera, Rogge captures the natural terrain in its' otherworldliness and heavenly aura.
With this technique, sunlight is reflected and absorbed fundamentally differently to the way the human eye sees it, creating a new perception and adding a new perspective. It elevates the contours of nature to an almost spiritual level.
Landscape and life of Comporta is situated on the diametrical opposite of the Atlantic Divide to New York City where the artist currently resides. This juxtaposition of the Old World and New World also signifies a conflict within the artist herself; her European roots vis-à-vis the decades she has made home of America.
Here in Comporta she feels she has found a way back to her roots which is made clear by these strong and powerful, yet somehow light and magical images made so by the artist’s unique photographic technique.
